TEENAGERSINTOKYO - 2 EPs

Post-Punk, New Wave, Indie, Australian

Teenagersintokyo are in their twenties and they are from Australia not Japan. They do however have a darkly seductive post punk futurism that would fit in nicely with the actual Tokyo and even more so with the moody manga/cyberpunk fictional sci-fi version of Tokyo. They are currently recording their debut album far from the cyberpunk crowd deep in the Welsh mountains with Bat for Lashes producer David Kosten. While this debut is due out in early 2010, teenagersintokyo are releasing their latest double single "Isabella/Long Walk Home" on limited edition 7” vinyl and digital download. For those who didn't catch their slinky post punk goth goodness on their last tour supporting the likes of !!! (Chk Chk Chk), CSS, The Slits, Midnight Juggernauts, The Gossip, Van She, Lost Valentinos, Cut Off Your Hands and Damn Arms, amongst others, please don't hesitate to catch their single launch on 30 September. Below there are their 1st Ep coming out in Japan 2007 and their new double single EP
2009.

Demontré

Post-Punk, Shoegaze, Indie, British

London's Demontré do post-punk, and they do it well. Clean, leaping basslines support a squall of occasionally psychedelic guitar (hear it scratch, hear it bend) to stir up cascades of frenetic indie noise. Name dropping? Liars, Josef K, the ubiquitous Joy Division, Pere Ubu or PiL perhaps? Never mind - it stands up on its own.

KASMs - Spayed

Post-Punk, Punk, Rock, British

Fearsome self styled “Shriekbeat” act KASMs are London-based Rachel Mary Callaghan, Gemma Fleet, Scott R. Walker and Rory Brattwell. All four members have been other bands: Rachel was the singer in spazzcore band Sin o the East, along with Rory on guitar; Gemma was in London based grunge-pop band Wolfie; Scott was in an ethnic/improv band called Aum Sahib and Rory was in quite a few bands, the most well known being short-lived NME favorites Test Icicles. During their first year together they have played in New York, Paris, Berlin, Milan and toured the UK with contemporaries Televised Crimewave. They signed to Trouble Records (birthplace of acts such as Crystal Castles) in April 2008 with their first two singles ‘Taxidermy’ (which sold out all 2000 copies, touching number 12 in the charts) and the primal suggestions of recent single ‘Bone You’ convinced us that KASMS were a band to be reckoned with, At one moment grasping at the juddering Halloween punk of The Cramps, and allying it to the progressive aggression of Sonic Youth and shaking you out of your stupor.

tracklist:
1. Male Bonding
2. Insects
3. Taxidermy
4. Spayed
5. KRIH
6. Don’t Hit The Bottom
7. Bone You
8. Trenchfoot

Editors - In This Light and On This Evening

Indie, Electronical, Alternativ

Nowadays the music has changed and part of the change are the Soviet Soviet, these three guys: Alessandro, Andrea and Alessandro are ready to show to everyone how a mix of post-punk, new rave and new wave can be so sweet for the ears. With sounds that can refresh the “new thing” movement this brand new band, one year ago in Pesaro (Italy) gave life to a project and now they have released their first EP “Soviet Soviet” where we can appreciate all the power that can only be done with an aggressive bass, a new uploaded drums beat and a crying guitar for create a cloudy atmosphere that can carry the melodies slowly by the air.

An Experiment on a bird in the air pump - These Sins

Post-Punk

Go to Berlin - Just A Band

Indie Rock, Romania

"Coming from the most unlikely of musical hubs-Romania; Go To Berlin are here with their debut EP ‘Just A Band’. Five tracks of indie-rock with hooks-a-plenty and enough variation to keep anyone’s attention for the 18 minute run-time. A Romanian newspaper has said "The future of Romanian rock is on good hands - Go To Berlin"
They pull their influences in from all sides and combine their favourite elements of pop rock and indie to create the bands’ sound which is a tangled web of melodies, souring choruses and the rock and roll guitar solos. It could be any year and from anywhere in the world, this EP seams to straddle everything from the rock world and comes out the other side charming you into listening to it again.

Must have been Tokyo

Dance-Punk, Indie Rock, Electronica, Switzerland

So beschreiben die Jungs von Must Have Been Tokyo ihren Sound.

The Exploding Boy - The Exploding Boy (2007)

Post-Punk, New Wave, Dark Indie

A Certain Ratio - The Graveyard and the Ballroom

Post-Punk, New Wave

The angular, bass-heavy post-punk of A Certain Ratio could conceivably be compared to that of their Factory labelmates Joy Division (singer Simon Topping is a dead ringer vocally for Joy Division's Ian Curtis). One key difference is that A Certain Ratio has a more pronounced funk influence, which makes their music more danceable. Another difference is that Topping's lyrics, more abstract and even humorous (albeit in a dark, quirky way) are less dramatic than Curtis'. The Graveyard and the Ballroom, compiled from a collection of early four-track recordings and a set of live tracks (recorded when the band was opening for Talking Heads), shows off A Certain Ratio's strengths well. The sound is surprisingly good for such lo-fi recordings, and the band is, for all of their musical amateurishness, rather precise and controlled. Unfortunately, that highlights a key flaw of the album: Too often, it is accomplished enough to be intriguing, but never all that gripping. By emphasizing rhythm over melody, A Certain Ratio makes music that is interesting and danceable, but not hugely compelling. It's mechanically well-played, with quirky, interesting lyrics that never really seem to add up to anything more than an attention-grabbing sound. Nonetheless, those seeking an idiosyncratic, interesting art-funk band can do no wrong with this release, even if it ultimately falls short of any meaning beyond quirky experimentalism.

The NeaT

BBC Introducing The NeaT

Flashguns

Indie Rock, New Wave, British

An exciting London/Brighton quartet. Sam Johnston (Vocals and Guitar,) songwriter, fuses fast, disjointed tunes with dark, Audenesque lyrics and “plaintive vocals” (Steve Lamacq.) Rich, textural organ riffs (Oli Wright) lend a mysterious, almost haunting tone to the songs, Olly Scanlon’s intricate bass lines are integral to the music whilst all the above is held together with time keeper Giles Robinson on drums adds the trade mark raw, lightening speed. Heavily influenced by bands such as the Smiths and the Cure, more modern influences include the Maccabees, the Mystery Jets, Biffy Clyro, The Killers and Bombay Bicycle Club. Although still at boarding school, Flashguns are committed to writing and regular practice which gives for intense stage presence; which has been encapsulating audience across the London and Brighton region, and over an album’s worth of songs, with another album’s worth in the nascent stages of composition and arrangement.

The XX - The XX

Post-Punk, Indie

Teardrops, Chrystalised) etwas durchbrochen.

The Ruling Class - Tour De Force

Madchester, Indie

The Ruling Class is the first band that I feel is actually continuing what The Stone Roses, The Charlatans and Ride had started.

This Swedish/English combo started by singer/songwriter Tomas Kubowicz and bassist Anton Lindberg in 2006. After little success in finding like-minded bandmates in Sweden, they relocated to London in an attempt to perhaps gain some influence. It may have been a little too late, seeing as it was almost 10 years after Britpop’s demise, which Tomas admits to in a recent interview:
“The Stone Roses was kind of an introduction – I never had any high thoughts of their debut album when I first listened to it, but when I picked up the album again a couple years later and had a listen, it totally exploded. It’s a masterpiece. I’ve never left them since.”
