Ganz richtig: 4 Dorfis (David, Rob, Max, Julius) ohne nennenswerte Zukunft, die es nie weiter als zu einem vergesslichen Auftritt im nahegelegenen Jugendclub bringen werden. GREY TELEVISION, die zwar nicht aus der Musikmetropole Berlin kommen, jedoch nah ihr leben und damit den Puls der Zeit fühlen. Treibendes Schlagzeug, dynamischer Bass, 2 Gitarren zwischen IndiePop und avantgardistischen Postpunk sowie eingestreuten elektronischen Elementen, damit bewegen sich GREY TELEVISION zwischen den musikalischen Fronten. So unvorhersehbar die antiquaren Uhren von den abenteuerlich montierten Regalen in der Garage fallen, genauso wenig kann man GREY TELEVISION eben in jene Schublade stecken."

Ab dem 23. April 2010 kann man die EP "IT'S ALL INSIDE YOUR HEAD" überall auf ihren Konzerten erwerben. Allerdings existiert nur eine limitierte Auflage von 280 Stück. Als nächstes kann man GREY TELEVISION bei einem fabelhaften Gig zusammen mit THESE NEW PURITANS im Berliner BANG BANG CLUB bewundern. Datum ist der 23.4 @ Bang Bang Club, Berlin. Start 21°° Uhr!

Die gebürtigen Franzosen John & Jehn haben vor kurzem nach ihrem selbstbetitelten Debutalbum ihr zweites Album "Time for the Devil" veröffentlicht. Das nun in London lebende Duo spielt erfrischende Pop Musik passend zum Frühling, die auch in Richtung Folk Rock mit gelegentlichen Elektro-Elementen geht. In den teilweise tief einsätzenden Bässen und der phasenweise düsteren Stimmung erkennt man ihre Vorbilder wie zB. Joy Division oder Velvet Underground. Nicolas Congé und Camille Berthomier, was ihre wahren Namen sind, haben nicht nur eine musikalische, sondern auch eine ganz persönliche Beziehung zueinander. Seit einigen Jahren sind sie ein Paar. Ihr erstes Album, so sagt man, wurde daher nahezu im Schlafzimmer aufgenommen.

Am 7. Juni kommt das gleichnamige Album der New Yorker auf den Markt. Es beinhaltet sowohl bekannte, als auch neue Tracks. Entgegen erster Gedankenspiele der Drums befindet sich ihr Hit "Let's go surfing" nun doch auf dem Album. Ebenso ihre aktuelle Single "Best Friend". Fehlen wird dagegen leider "I felt so stupid" , which is really stupid I mean. Dafür gibts den Track aber hier und wir alle freuen uns auf die neuen Songs der Philip Hall Radar Award Gewinner.

Caribou

Psychedelic / Experimental / Electronic / Canadian

Ein Caribou kennt man ja. Zumindest wenn man in Kanada lebt und an das hirschartige (Ren-)Tier denkt. Die nordamerikanischen Vertreter dieser Rentiere werden nämlich als Caribou (Karibu) bezeichnet, ein Wort aus der Sprache der Mi'kmaq-Indianer. Somit verwundert es mich auch nicht, dass gerade Kanadier diesen Begriff kennen und ihre Band entsprechend benennen. Die Klauen der Caribous lassen sich weit spreizen, das ist im Winter sehr hilfreich. Denn durch die breite Trittfläche wird das Risiko minimiert, in den weichen Schnee einzusinken. Wenn ein Rentier geht, hört man ein Knacken in den Fußgelenken. Rentiere sind schnelle und ausdauernde Läufer. Ähnlich weitläufig und ausdauernd ist auch das neue Album "Swim" der kanadischen Band Caribou. Über elektronische- oder minimalistische Momente hin zum psychedelischen oder auch poppigen Stil, welcher bspw. an Phoenix erinnern könnte(Leave House). Angst vorm Einsinken muss sich die Band also nicht machen, hat man doch eine breite Trittfläche vorzuweisen. Gewöhnungsbedürftig ist ihre Musik trotzdem, aber wenn ein Karibu beim Gehen ein Knacken erzeugt, dann wird Caribou das beim Tanzpublikum genauso schaffen.

Good Shoes

Während, nach oder vor ihren ganzen Gigs müssen es die Jungs von den Good Shoes noch irgendwie geschafft haben ein Video zu ihrem Track "The Way my heart beats" vom neuen Album "No Hope, No Future" aufzunehmen. Macht die Band genauso weiter, dann können sie erstens genug "Hope" haben und zweitens sicherlich auf eine gute Zukunft blicken.

Das neue HEALTH Video sieht wahrlich nicht gerade gesund aus, vielmehr ähnelt es einem Horrorstreifen, was aber der Stimmung des Songs absolut zuträglich ist. Gebannt schaut man sich das Stück an und leidet mit. Düstere Stimmung nicht nur im Video sondern genauso in den Ohren. Die Atmosphären verschmelzen sozusagen, weshalb man bei "We are water" von einem gelungenen Video sprechen darf.

Parties In Belgrade are actually not a Serbian political organisation but rather a four piece playing their wares in London’s East End. The Band is formed in the Midlands & have recently moved to London. They are a four piece who include two brothers. Their music is a mix between surf elements, Punk, Indie and Rock. Egal was man bei Egyptian Hip Hop im ersten Moment denkt, ihre Musik ist weder Egyptian noch Hip Hop! Vielmehr gehen die vier Jungs in Richtung der Foals! Mit ihrem ganz eigenen Stil, der in Richtung Dance-Rock, Post-Punk geht, trotzdem elektronische Momente immer wieder gekonnt in Szene setzt, machen Egyptian Hip Hop auf sich aufmerksam. Nach ihrem ersten Track "Rad Pitt" haben die vier Jungs nun das erste Video am Start und es beweist zusätzlich zur guten Musik auch einges an jugendlichen Humor! Wie auch immer, schaut es euch an und bewertet selber.

Fuck you 2010. So far, what exactly have you turned up? Hmm? Yet more synth-pop and a new Courteeners album? Pathetic. And you’ve killed 6Music as well. You’re rubbish. We’re leaving... Hang on a minute, what’s this? Onstage before us are The Neat. A furious foursome from Hull, a bleak city stuffed with abbatoirs, rattling out angular buzzsaw Buzzcockisms to a half-empty Barfly like it was Brixton Academy. Unquestionably, they’re the finest new guitar band we’ve seen in an age, but as their six-song set hurtles by, through the juddering heart attack of ‘In Youth Is Pleasure’ and the cryptic rattle of ‘Fruits’, they’re nothing short of a revelation. Banter is reassuringly scarce (“We’re from Hull” is about the extent of it), t-shirts are reassuringly cool (woodpeckers and paint splats), and the lyrics that bark over the rancour don’t so much dissect popular culture as bash it into bits with a big stick. Clearly, the new post-punk intelligentsia are from the East Riding. Who knew? THE FLY
